A Day Off….Time For Reflection

Dateline San Antonio, Day Two. Today was a day off, wandering down San Antonio’s famous River Walk. Decades ago my lovely wife Leanne (AKA Mission Control) and I walked here in the basking sun, holding hands, talking about lots of stuff, and enjoying the flowers, peacefulness, and scenery. Today was much different, and I admit Your Intrepid Cancer Cure Rider did indeed reminisce and feel that magic yet again.

That, my good friends, seemed to just set up the day. I talked just yesterday to a couple on a Harley, clear back in Pecos, about this endeavor. To say that Alex and his wife (please forgive me….my memory is failing on your name lovely lady) were remarkable people is an understatement. We talked about bikes, long distances on them, the heat we had all been riding in, and a multitude of things. And of course about America’s Perimeter Tour – “To The Ends Of America To End Cancer”. Alex and his wife had been touched by cancer, and were very moved by this all out effort that Cancer Ride America is making to help to fund cancer care and to find a cure. I admit that I shed tears of compassion and gratefulness when Alex called me “brother”, shook my hand, and told me that he was road weary and tired, and had been ready to quit after a long hot day. He went on to tell me that I had energized him (his words), and he was ready to make the long ride on home. Amazing is all I can say.

And it continued into today. I met Mike in a restaurant. He talked with me (or rather listened to me) about this ride. Tomorrow he rides with me part way to Corpus Christi. A complete stranger, but all of a sudden a friend.

And the people I met on the River Walk. The folks who took this picture, who own a ‘Wing….Thank you for taking some of your time to talk with me and take this photo. I am honored to listen to your story and am riding for your mother too.

My friends, today I focus on the purpose of Cancer Ride America. It matters. You and your loved ones matter. Today I rest, tomorrow I again ride for you and yours. My goal is to talk to 10,000 people and convince each and every one of them to donate one dollar. With your help, we can get this done.

I did do a little sight seeing. “Remember The Alamo!”

And finally, on a lighter note……everything is big in Texas!!! Thank you lovely ladies for playing along!
