Dateline Republic, Washington:<\/p>\n

Your Intrepid Cancer Cure Rider, accompanied by his \u201cbiker babe\u201d mom, weaved his way through the last vestiges of Idaho very soon after the wonderful time with the McQueens, and found himself in Republic, Washington. Well, actually, Republic is where one of my oldest and dearest friends, Roger Heath has a \u201crustic\u201d (very) cabin. And since it was on the way to Ellensburg anyway, and since he invited us and made us dinner, I felt we should swing by there and spend the night.<\/p>\n

Roger and I met some 36 years ago at the Washington State Police Academy. Of the two of us, he was the brains and I was the brawn. But, we pretty much disliked each other until one day he called out to me by my first name, which is actually \u201cJerry\u201d and I climbed down his throat and told him my name is Dean. After that, for reasons only to be understood by people far smarter than I, we became fast friends. He ended up at the King County Police Department and I at Seattle PD. In spite of our schedules and lives, Roger and I became like brothers and even if we don\u2019t talk for months or even years, it\u2019s like we were together yesterday.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Roger bought this property and eventually built a rustic cabin on it, outhouse and all. So mom and I blew into town and he met us at the motel. Mom checked in and we all went up to his cabin for a wonderful BBQ chicken dinner. After an evening of catching up and keeping mom in stitches with war stories, we took her back to her motel and Rog and I spent the rest of the evening watching CHIPs DVD\u2019s. Thank goodness he has a generator or we\u2019d be sitting around deciding who had more toe jam!<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next morning it was off to Ellensburg, where on Monday morning we\u2019ll have the very distinct privilege of riding again with the North Star Doctors and staff from there back to Yakima. On the way Your Intrepid Cancer Cure Rider, upon weaving through some of the forests yet again being astonished and the beauty nature gives us, teared up, upon realizing that America\u2019s Perimeter Tour \u2013 \u201cTo The Ends Of America To End Cancer\u201d, and Cancer Ride America, has met its\u2019 goal and then some and is drawing to its\u2019 conclusion. Perhaps, just perhaps, Yours Truly and Mission Control have made just a little bit of a difference in someone\u2019s life.<\/strong><\/p>\n
